The annual book sale is the Friends major fund-raiser of the year. While usually held at the Scarborough Library, in June 2016 the sale moved to larger quarters—the Scarborough High School cafeteria—to accomodate the more than 25,000 donated books.
During the annual 4-day Book Sale event, hundreds of bargain hunters come to the Book Sale looking for the perfect summer read! With more than 25,000 donated books, puzzles, and audio-visual titles to choose from, readers of all ages find at least one book by their favorite author at this annual Friends sponsored event.
Volunteers are busy sorting books for the 2018 sale at the Scarborough Public Works facility on Wednesdays, starting in January at 10:00 a.m. All interested volunteers and groups of volunteers are welcome (thank you IDEXX!). We sort weekly at this day and time unless weather is a problem. We usually sort for a couple of hours, but volunteers stay as long as they wish.
Book Sale 2018: Guidelines for Donations
Planning has already started for the 2018 Book Sale and you can help. While we love getting donations, some simply do not sell. So we are asking that donors follow these guidelines:
If donors help by following these guidelines it will decrease the burden on our volunteers who take the donated books to Scarborough Public Works for sorting and making pallets of books for the next Book Sale. It is a big job and they appreciate your help!!
Volunteer @ the Book Sale: The success story of the Friends Book Sale would not be complete if we failed to recognize the extraordinary effort of the very dedicated volunteers who make this event possible. Many hands make light work, or at least make it seem that way. By donating your time, you help the Friends and the Library, but it's also fun! Volunteers see old friends, neighbors, and even former classmates. If you are willing to help, please send us an email and include the day(s) you're available.
